Police seize 40 kg poppy husk in Punjab

Police have seized nearly 40 kg of poppy husk from a field in a village here, officials said today.

The contraband was recovered when a search operation was conducted last night in the field in Roli village following a tip-off, the officials said.

The unidentified peddler, however, managed to flee.

A case has been registered under the NDPS Act against the unknown smuggler, police added.

Poppy husk is the source of opium, which is used as an analgesic and narcotic medicinal and recreational drug.
